A Work Shop in Palestine Ahliya University – Bethlehem : The Right to Travel and Movement

The Faculty of Law in Al-Ahliya University – Bethlehem, represented by the Dean of the Faculty Dr. Ali Abu Mariyya, hosted the Center for the Defense of Liberties and Civil Rights “Hurryyat” to talk about the Israeli travel ban policy in the presence of 80 Law students.

Mr. Helmi Araj described the travel ban policy as a racial policy targeting all the Palestinian segments of different ages with the lack of any reasons but security prohibitions. This is considered as a blatant violation of the civil and social rights of the Palestinians since they are deprived of going about their lives and jobs freely including pilgrimage, education, social communication and health with no clear legal justifications.

Mr. Helmi also added that Hurryyat Center has been working for two years on the legal follow-up of these cases starting with the petitions presented before the competent authorities and attaining the Supreme Court. Although the Center has achieved many successes in this regard, they are still individual successes unable to confront the major crime completely. Thus, we need a unified national position of the public and governmental sectors to turn this case into a national case and transfer it to the international community to commit to its responsibility especially the United Nations represented by the Secretary General.
