The Center for Defense of Liberties and Civil Rights “Hurryyat” is a Palestinian non-governmental andindependent organization that contributes to protecting Palestinians’ civil and political rights. Hurryyatwas established in Jerusalem in 1992 to extend the work of the committees of protection of rights,which were formed as a grassroots organization in 1985 to face the iron fist policy adopted by theIsraeli occupation. Hurryyat was registered in 2003 with the Palestinian Ministry of Interior inaccordance with the law of non-governmental and civil organizations No. (1) of the year 2000.In response to the human rights challenges and the events that accompanied the formation and workof the Palestinian National Authority as well as the continuation of the occupation, Hurryyat revised itsjourney to complete building its abilities in harmony with the requirements for protecting civil andpolitical rights and freedoms, as well as clarifying its mission and vision and formulating its goalsbased on its grassroots connections and the values and principles governing its work.The formulation of Hurryyat’s objectives is based on the spirit of volunteerism, equality, social justiceand commitment to social development and democracy.To achieve its objectives, Hurryyat works to:1. Activate social involvement in protecting Palestinians’ civil and political rights.2. Organize systematic activities directly targeted to the advocacy of the Palestinian prisoners’cause.3. Contribute to influence the decision-making process in a manner that protects civil and politicalrights and freedoms.Hurryyat is a member of the Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network “PNGO”, NGOsUnion for Development, High Committee of Prisoners’ Affairs Follow up, Coalition for a SafeEducational Environment, , the National Committee for Civil Peace and the Palestinian Coalitionagainst Torture.Hurryyat has signed the Code of Ethics and rules of conduct on transparency and accountability inPalestinian civil society, and the center is also committed to the principles and provisions ofinternational humanitarian law and the human rights law.

Hurryyat is a Palestinian civil organization that works with the involvement of targeted and wronged sectors to raise the importance of human rights and civil and political freedoms, protect the causes of prisoners and detainees and enhance the principle of rule of law and good governance in the occupied Palestinian territory.

1 - To ensure the implementation of International Humanitarian Law on Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli jails and to ease the difficulty of the detention on the prisoners and their families.
2 - To enable marginalized sectors of Palestinian society to practice their civil and political rights and freedoms.
3 - To enhance and complete the development of the institutional capacity of the center.
