Hurryyat: Israeli Government Accountable for the Life of Sheikh Khader Adnan

The Center for the Defense of Liberties and Civil Rights “Hurryyat” holds the Occupation Authorities accountable for the life of Sheikh Khader Adnan who is in his 31st day of the open hunger strike refusing to take any nutritional support or medical care thus threatening his life.

This Heroic hunger strike comes to shed light on the issue of the administrative detention policy one year after the collective hunger strike by administrative detainees that lasted 63 days.

Hurryyat deprecates the reticence of the international community on the administrative detention policy which the Occupation Authorities have abused for arbitrary detention violating the laws of justice and breaching the rules of the International Humanitarian Law. Hurryyat addressed the International Community headed by Secretary General of the United Nations Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions, The Human Rights Council, and the Human Rights Organizations mainly Amnesty International and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The Center urged them to condemn this policy violating the International Humanitarian Law and particularly The Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, and to exert maximum pressure upon the Israeli government to end this policy, release the administrative detainees, particularly Khader Adnan, and to take full accountability for his life.

Hurryyat also urged the Palestinian State and its representatives in the United Nations, its embassies and its diplomatic missions around the world to evoke the cause of administrative detention in international forums, and enlist it on the agendas of the UN General Assembly, Human Rights Council, and world parliaments to urge the occupying state commit itself to the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
